Updates And Registrations

x) Registrations now requires admin approval due to spammers - which means it could take a day or two before your account gets activated. You still have to confirm your email beforehand.
x) Guests should now be able to use the downloads system - please send me an email if it doesn't work

Also, if you haven't been approved within 2 days from registration - send me an email. We get around 50 new spam-registrations a day, and it's sometimes hard to differ "real" usernames and the fake spam-names.

Registrations Online Again

I've enabled registrations again, although I'll be monitoring the amount of spam closely the next few weeks. I had to enable a simpler version of CAPTCHA, which will most likely make it easier for spambots to register. Downloads-system also once again requires registration to use.

Registrations Offline

Due to some bug, the images used to identify real humans apart from computers when registering is not working atm.

This means that until further notice, the registrations for the forums will be offline.

Also, the download database have been updated to not require registrations for this duration.

If you want a user to chat on the forums, you can send an email to krifos@addictedtopirates.com with your desired username, and i'll see what I can do ).gif

Sid Meier's Pirates! For Mac Is Released

This is quite old news (almost two months!), but it's still news to me - and it hasn't been mentioned before in the news-section, so here is a small update.

Sid Meier's Pirates! was released for Mac (both PowerPC and Intel compatible) on August 29th 2008. A company called Feral Interactive has done the porting, and they have also ported other games like Fable: Lost Chapters, Tomb Raider Anniversary, and Battlestations Midway.

The listed system requirements are as following:

RAM: 512MB
Graphics: 64MB
Mac OS: 10.4
Hard Disk: 1.4GB

Input: Keyboard

Recommended System Requirements
Processor: 2GHz
RAM: 1GB
Graphics: 128MB
Mac OS: 10.5
Hard Disk: 1.4GB

Firaxis Announces Colonization "ii"

Firaxis has announced what seems to be Colonization II, allthough they are using the Civilization-brand for what it's worth. The new title is: Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - and will be a stand-alone title for PC (XP / Vista).

The title is marked as "Games for Windows", and will be released fall 2008. I'm guessing a mid-november-release isn't totally out of the question.

Link to press-release

For those who want some screenshots, the game looks pretty similar to Civilization IV (no - really?), and GameShark have some screenshots for the game here.

Atp / Atf Back Up!

Finally, everything should be working properly. It seems that there is a bug in this version of IPB that on rare occasions corrupts DB-tables. Due to several circumstances, I was not able to fix it until now. I apologize for the "downtime" (allthough PM's has been working).

If this happens again, let me know by sending me an e-mail to krifos@addictedtopirates.com, or by sending me a PM (in which case I'm notified on the same address).

Also, sometime in not too long when I have the time I will have to do a scheduled downtime on ATF to upgrade the forum software to the latest version. But, more on that later.

Previews Of Sid Meier's Pirates! For Psp

With the release of Sid Meier's Pirates! for PSP coming up, the gamesites around the world has started to post previews of this handheld console-version of the game. msh441 from our forums has dug up no less than three previews of Sid Meier's Pirates for PSP.

Both Gamespot, GameSpy and IGN has previewed the game, and they all seem to enjoy it. They point out that dancing has been made simpler, with markers coming up before the dancemove (instead of just handgestures). This might be similar to dancing on the easiest difficulty level on the PC-version, where the buttons flash, just my assumption though.

Also, the sneaking is back - though you can't hide everywhere like in the PC-version, the sneaking is made more like the land-battles, where you move square-wise. The treasure-hunting and questing are also improved and made simpler for your PSP-pleasure.

Sid Meier's Pirates! For Psp

This is somewhat old news, but still interesting. And finally we have multiplayer! Yay!

QUOTE
Sailing to a port near you in January 2007!

Sid Meier debuts on the PSP with his award-winning adventure/strategy game, Sid Meier's Pirates! Take on the role of a Pirate Captain to amass fortune and fame and seize your rightful place as one of the most revered and feared pirates in history. There is a whole cast of interesting and dangerous characters to meet, mysteries to solve, exotic island destinations to discover, and powerful alliances to forge. Duel, battle (on land and sea), dance, sneak, and hunt your way to unimaginable riches! Each time you play you create a new and exciting adventure, so the replayability is limitless!

Features in Sid Meier’s Pirates! for the PSP

Wireless Multiplayer - Up to 4 players can play simultaneously using the Wi-Fi capabilities of the PSP, each with their own dedicated screen. Additional multi-player maps, some of them much larger than those seen on Xbox, have also been added.

Treasure Hunt - All new treasure hunting not seen in any previous version. There are more than 20 unique locations that the player will have to navigate around to collect pirate treasure, find lost relatives, and Incan cities.

Accessible User Interface - The menus and user interface are optimized for use on a portable device. The Widescreen display is fully utilized and the controls available on the unit are used to their maximum potential. Navigating is smooth; the player won't miss their mouse at all!

Minimal Load Times/Breaks of Play - There are minimal load times and breaks of play when switching game modes. The player will be able to navigate between the 3 major game modes - sailing, ship to ship battles and entering a port - with only minor transition times.

Stealth/Sneaking - Using a 3D tile-based environment, players move one square at a time around a large grid of buildings to hide for cover and fight with guards in the town.

Land and Sea Battles - The player fights in the same grid/turn based fashion as the PC/Xbox. Engage in fierce naval battles, against both single vessels and multi-ship convoys. Harrowing action sequences on ship decks include swinging from yard arms, slashing down sails, and clobbering enemy crew as players make their way to the enemy captain.

Sid Meier's Pirates! for the PSP is scheduled to ship in North America in January of 2007 and in Europe on February 27, 2007.

Forum Upgrade Incoming

Greetings dear users and bloody spammers, I am happy to announce that I'm sometime soon ™ during today or this week will upgrade the forum to the latest and newly released version of IPB, v2.2.0.

The upgrade shouldn't take long, BUT - addons and skins etc might not function properly, so there might be some problems in the beginning.

I think it's better that I keep the forum open as much as possible, rather than keeping it closed for a week or three just to find out everything that isn't working properly :P
